Ben Le Jeune is a restless troubadour and mercurial Anglo-Belgian frontman whose lyrics are imbued with a dark and dramatic romanticism. His songs recount stories of love and hope in a world gone wrong.

A captivating singer, musician and poet, he is also known as the firebrand frontman of The Creature Comfort, a cult underground fixture of the Manchester scene in the late 80’s / 90’s. They were stubborn rock’n’roll outliers who attracted a crossover audience from the punk, metal, goth and grunge scenes. “We were never quite sure if we’d get beaten up by the bouncers, or be given a hero’s escort home by the local biker gang,” Ben recalls.

Taken under the wings of the Stone Roses manager, the band shared rehearsal space with the Roses and also later Oasis, played with luminaries of the time including Mudhoney, Gun Club and Stereolab, and recorded tracks at Joy Division’s Peter Hook’s studio for compilation albums that also featured Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Echo & the Bunnymen

In 2022, exiled from his Mancunian gang and searching both for grounding and rebirth, Ben moved five times across three countries before finally settling in south west France in 2023.

It is during this period of instability that his debut solo album “A Stranger To Your City” took root. Composed and recorded between 2022 and 2024, this solo project marks a true artistic evolution. Drawing from his experiences, Ben becomes the messenger of his own story, choosing to explore and convey his deep-seated need for greater poetic truth with newfound maturity.

As he explains: “after my move from Manchester to France I started writing material that was more intimate and personal, so it made sense to release under my own name. During my journey there have been a fair few dark nights of the soul and this is reflected in the nature of these songs - they seem to have a special vibe, moody yet also joyous. I can't wait for them to be heard - and to perform them live!”
